Although The Two Noble Kinsmen likely was written in 1613, the first printing of the play did not occur until 1634, when "the memorable worthies of their time, Mr John Fletcher, and Mr William Shakespeare, Gent." were credited as co-authors on the title page. The science fiction writer Philip José Farmer rarely ventured into fantasy, but this story from early in his career is certainly one of his best. Word leaks out that Jesse did indeed have a twin, which seems to explain that anomaly, but Jesse himself is deteriorating, losing interest in his old life although he is still obsessed with his automobile cemetery.

Despite warnings from the few people they encounter, they choose to shelter on a large island covered by willow trees, even after the narrator senses an unspecific psychic menace. I wonder now if Meyer is cautioning her audience to stop cheering on the relationship between Edward and Bella so whole-heartedly. We never see the vampire at first-hand because the story is not about him but about the changes that take place in the protagonist’s life and her perceptions of those around her.
